How mini wasps work

Mini wasps are a small group of wasps that multiply by laying its eggs in fly pupae. Mini wasps are thus natural enemies of, among other, the common house fly (Musca domestica) and biting house flies - also known as stable flies (Stomoxys calcitrans) and can be used to fight unwanted flies in pig and cattle stables.

The wasps are sent out to the stable by post

Mini wasps from Miljøfluen® are sent in cups to the customer by post on a regular basis. Therefore, a control solution with mini wasps acts as a subscription without binding.

Parasitic wasps’ workflow

Step 1. Mini wasps are suitable for stables with deep bedding, and they therefore need to go down into the bedding to find the fly pupae that contain unwanted flies. There are two ways to do that.

1. Either by sprinkling the contents of the cup along the edge of the deep bedding or...
2. ...by simply placing the open cup near the area in which you want to fight. The animals must not be able to reach the cup.

Step 2. When the wasps has been placed the stable, they find themselves into the deep bedding and go in search of fly pupae in which they can lay their eggs.

Step 3: Of the parasitized fly pupae, wasps hatch and not flies.

Step 4: For the rest of the adult parasitic wasp's lifespan, it crawls around in the deep bedding, looking for fly pupae it can lay eggs in,
